In October of this year, Rend Collective released a new album titled Campfire II: Simplicity. You probably got this from the title, but the general idea of the album was to record stripped-down, acoustic versions of songs around a campfire. Most of the songs featured on this album were previously from their The Art of Celebration and As Family We Go albums. But, it also features two new tracks, as well as a re-imagined version of Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) originally by Hillsong United.
How does their version of Oceans differ from the original? Well, for one, no one can sing it the way Taya Smith does – it’s just impossible to do so. Rend Collective doesn’t try to imitate the original. Instead, they’ve put their own spin on it, as they always do with most of their covers. They’ve successfully made Oceans to sound more folksy and upbeat, yet not wandering too far from the original. It’s still a song you can worship your heart out too for sure!
I have to say, I quite like Rend Collective’s version of it as much as the original. Sure, it gives a different feel, but it’s still a song I can worship to nevertheless. And it sounds good too! Here, give it a listen too and let me know what you think!
